The World's Largest Flaker - Another Fine Feat by Hombak

Crowning constant commitment to construction of more or less half a year, HOMBAK proudly presented and delivered the world’s largest drum flaker in June 2000 – designed to enhance operations of Hombak’s long-standing Austrian customer, EGGER. The flaker, which weighs approx. 110 tons, has a shaft diameter of 1,400 mm, and, with the help of as much as 78 serrated knives positioned on 3 disks, processes logs of up to 1,200 mm in diameter. Thanks to its power of 2 x 560 kW, more than 30 tons of dry flakes can be produced per hour. A frequency converter built into this type of machine for the first time allows a considerable reduction of both the starting time as well as braking period of the shaft. And the machine still holds another big asset: The wear-resistant braking mode it offers guarantees smooth and, last but not least, durable operation.
The new particle-board facility supporting work at the Egger company in Unterradlberg is designed to yield over 1,300 cubic metres of particle board per day –that’s solid performance.
